RAL & BS381C paint guide

Choose the colour code, paint format and finish for your project. Start with a physical colour reference.

RAL colours

Use the full RAL code from your physical reference. Our browser covers the existing RAL range with code and name search.

British Standard BS381C

Browse the 91 standard BS381C shades. BS381C is its own range; a similar RAL colour name does not mean the codes match.

Three details to decide before ordering

  1. The exact colour code

Use the code on a physical reference, specification or original paint record. A screen swatch is an approximate guide.

  2. The application format

Choose a 30ml touch-up bottle, 20ml fine-tip paint, a 400ml aerosol or a tin from 100ml to 5 litres. Check the selected option on the product page.

  3. The finish and surface

Tell us if you need matt, satin or gloss and what you are painting. The current size selector does not confirm a custom finish; ask our team before ordering a finish that is not explicitly listed.

Colour and sheen are different decisions

Matt

A low-sheen appearance. It can look different from the same colour in a shiny finish.

Satin

A finish between matt and gloss. Check the required sheen against the item or specification.

Gloss

A shiny appearance. The colour code alone does not specify this finish.
