Touchuppaint advice

How to use a touch-up paint pen

Use the fine tip for precise marks or the brush in the lid for a little more control over the painted area.

  1. Check the pack

Confirm the colour and the listed pack contents. The touch-up pen has a fine tip and a brush in the lid. Primer and finishing compound are included only in packs that list them.

  2. Clean and inspect

Remove dirt, wax, polish and grease with products suitable for the existing finish. Let the area dry. If the damage exposes bare material, confirm the primer needed before applying colour.

  3. Mix and test

Mix the pen as directed on its label. Test the paint on a suitable sample and allow it to dry before comparing it with the vehicle.

  4. Choose the applicator

Use the fine tip for precise marks or the brush in the lid for a little more control. Follow the supplied instructions for opening and using each applicator.

  5. Use thin applications

Apply small amounts within the damaged area. Follow the stated interval between applications and avoid flooding the repair or covering sound surrounding paint.

  6. Allow full cure

The pen is direct gloss and does not need additional lacquer. Follow the supplied cure guidance before washing, polishing or applying another product.

  7. Use compound with care

For packs that include finishing compound, check that the repaired coating is fully cured and suitable for polishing before use.
